Do Iranian Americans Have a Stake in the War in Gaza?

The following piece was written by Jamal Abdi, President of the National Iranian American Council. The ongoing war in Gaza, in which Israeli forces have killed over 36,000 Palestinians with little end in sight, is not some distant crisis that is disconnected from the lives of Americans. As the slaughter of civilians has provoked widespread […]

NIAC Statement on Israeli Strikes in Isfahan, Iran

We were deeply disturbed by the reports of an Israeli military strike in Isfahan last night which risked triggering a new cycle of violence in the brewing conflict between Israel and Iran. We call on Iran and Israel to stand down from further retaliation and respect international law, and for President Biden to finally move with urgency to de-conflict and end the war in Gaza.

Legislative Outlook: Irresponsible Votes This Week on Iran Bills

We are deeply concerned by the legislative theater planned by the Republican Majority concerning U.S. policy toward Iran. This weekend, we saw the consequences of reckless militarism in the Middle East when Iran launched a massive volley of drones and missiles against Israel to retaliate for Israel’s April 1 bombing of its diplomatic compound in […]

NIAC Statement on Iranian Retaliation Against Israel

We are deeply concerned that Iranian retaliatory strikes following Israel’s April 1 attack on its diplomatic compound in Damascus will move the region even further from the path to peace and security. Now is the time for restraint and diplomacy, not more military escalation. Anyone who yearns for a future in which Iranians are free of the shackles of authoritarianism must reject war and work for peace and diplomacy.

NIAC demands VOA retract, correct, and apologize for their slanderous false reporting

After NIAC initiated legal efforts to demand a retraction, correction, and apology from Voice of America, the U.S. Agency for Global Media has confirmed to NIAC that the broadcast has been removed from VOA platforms. This follows the recent airing of a 60-minute program by VOA Farsi  that falsely defamed our grassroots U.S. civil society organization as “lobbyists for the Islamic Republic”, and also leveled these outrageously false smears against journalists and victims of the Islamic Republic.

NIAC Statement in Reaction to Iran-Saudi Deal

Ryan Costello, Policy Director with the National Iranian American Council, issued the following rapid reaction to the announcement of a diplomatic breakthrough between Saudi Arabia and Iran, brokered by China:

Memo: The Mahsa Act H.R.589

The MAHSA Act requires the President to determine whether the office of the Supreme Leader and the office of Iran’s President should be designated under existing sanctions authorities. Both the current Supreme Leader and President are already designated under one such authority, so in practical terms this bill would not lead to any increased sanctions. […]

Memo: The Designation Overshadowing the Iran Nuclear Negotiations

Reports indicate that most major issues in the Iran nuclear negotiations, aimed at restoring the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), are near the finish line. But one major hurdle appears to remain: the Trump administration’s unprecedented designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – a major branch of the armed forces in Iran […]
