The 116th Congress considered many issues of importance to the Iranian-American community, including the Muslim ban that has separated Iranian Americans from their loved ones and bills to block the Trump administration from starting a war with Iran without Congressional approval. The following scorecard reflects how each legislator performed in advancing peace and diplomacy with Iran, securing equitable immigration policies, and protecting the civil rights of all Americans by focusing on key votes, bills, and letters.

A Maximum Pressure Exit Strategy: Returning to & Building on the Iran Nuclear Deal

In November 2018, we warned that President Trump’s decision to abandon the Iran nuclear agreement had substantially damaged U.S. national security interests, credibility with allies, and global leadership. To mitigate the long-term damage to the U.S. and salvage the nuclear accord, our previous report urged lawmakers and Presidential contenders to announce their commitment to returning the United States to compliance with its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)—the nuclear agreement between the U.S., Iran, and other major world powers.
