Latest Poll: 66.1% of Iranian Americans Now Oppose Trump’s War on Iran
New Data Reveals Major Shift In Iranian American Community Opinion On War
WASHINGTON D.C. – The latest poll of Iranian Americans conducted by Zogby Analytics and released today by the National Iranian American Council (NIAC) finds that a strong majority of Iranian Americans (66.1%) now oppose Trump’s war on Iran, reflecting a 32 point swing from polling conducted at the outset of the conflict that found Iranian Americans were evenly split on the war, 49%-49%. It is perhaps the clearest documented marker yet of the shift in community opinion, reflecting how the destruction of civil infrastructure and resulting civilian carnage in Iran has fueled buyer’s remorse among even those who previously supported attacks.
“While our community may have divisions, this latest poll cements that Trump’s war is not only historically unpopular with Americans, but also with Iranian Americans – reflecting a painful mixture of buyer’s remorse and anguish at the civilian fallout that escalates with each passing day he continues this war,” said Jamal Abdi, NIAC President. “Iranian Americans overwhelmingly support ending the current conflict with a diplomatic off-ramp.”
The new survey, conducted between March 24 to March 27, 2026 among 508 Iranian Americans, finds that a clear and decisive shift against the war has taken place within a previously split community. A clear majority of Iranian Americans (66.1%) now oppose Trump’s war on Iran, and a strong majority also reject reported plans for Trump to escalate it further.
As Trump continues to threaten invasion of Iran, this latest poll revealed that 69.4% of Iranian Americans surveyed oppose inserting ground troops — a clear rejection of turning this into a long-term war or occupation. An overwhelming majority (70.7%) of Iranian Americans now want Trump to end this war, and 64.3% of Iranians surveyed support a negotiated agreement to reduce tensions and exit the war via a diplomatic off-ramp.
Even more striking is new data on emerging beliefs held by Iranian Americans about the implications of the war on Iran’s people:
- When asked, “What do you think the outcomes of this war will be one year from now?”, 57.3% of Iranian Americans believe the war will have worsened daily life for ordinary Iranians and expect conditions to deteriorate as a result of this war.
- A majority of Iranian Americans believe the Islamic Republic will still remain in power one year from now (53.3%).
- If the war leads to the removal of the Islamic Republic, just 37.1% of Iranian Americans believe a better government will take power.
- A significant majority of Iranian Americans want to see Iran’s government changed, but only by the Iranian people, not foreign intervention (61.1%).
“In just 1 month of war, Trump has proven what many Iranian Americans have been warning against for decades – that war is not the answer to addressing challenges with Iran, and that pursuing this route is an historically calamitous mistake. The empty promises of bloodless and easy regime change are collapsing, and cold reality is sadly sinking in for Iranian Americans of all previous viewpoints,” said Abdi.
“Not only has the Iranian American community clearly turned against the carnage, but most now believe none of its promises will be accomplished, and that life for Iranians is almost certainly going to be harder in the aftermath.”
“NIAC has long warned against the devastation of this outcome. We mourn the senseless destruction of Iranian lives and the worldwide ramifications, and call on Trump to end this war now.”
