Washington, DC – On June 3, 2026, NIAC sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Andrew Giuliani, Executive Director of the White House Task Force on the FIFA World Cup, urging the Trump administration to ensure that Iran’s national soccer team, Team Melli, and Iranian supporters are treated fairly during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
As the United States prepares to host the tournament, reports of visa complications and logistical hurdles raise serious concerns that Iran’s team and fans may face unfair treatment because of political tensions. NIAC is calling on the administration to work with FIFA to ensure the World Cup remains a celebration of sport, people, and culture — not a venue for discrimination against ordinary Iranians.
