Washington D.C. – NIAC released the following statements following the announcement of a ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran:
“President Trump has gone from threatening civilizational annihilation in the morning to announcing a very tenuous ceasefire in the evening. There are many questions to answer, including how sustainable it can be. Yet, we encourage all parties to seize this opportunity to pursue a workable deal and an end to the war that has been devastating for the people of Iran, U.S. and regional security and the global economy. Everything can get far worse if this opportunity for peace lapses. Trump will have to do some serious work to make this ceasefire work. As a first step, he must halt not just U.S. but Israeli attacks, which may require he stand up to Netanyahu. He also must appoint credible diplomatic interlocutors to pursue a deal based on the ten points he apparently finds workable. It is never too late for peace.“
