While Pride month has become a widely celebrated occasion, the lived experience of the LGBTQ+ community is an everyday affair. For the LGBTQ+ community Pride continues outside of June, along with the continued struggle for acceptance and equal rights. Please join us for an important discussion that looks at attitudes on queerness and LGBTQ+ rights in the Iranian-American community, the need to create a space for open dialogue and discussion, and a safe space for the queer Iranian-American community.

NIAC Presses Treasury on Discriminatory Bank Account Closures

On February 6, we sent the Treasury Department supplementary information supporting our rule change request. The information outlines NIAC’s longstanding advocacy to halt bank account closures as well as stories from impacted individuals who have been harmed by the discriminatory closure of their bank accounts. An excerpt of this supplemental information is included below. NIAC will keep fighting until no member of our community is under threat of having their bank account closed based on their national heritage.

Thanking Team Melli’s Carlos Queiroz

Queiroz tapped into his international network of contacts to work wonders for Team Melli and went above and beyond in standing up for his players on and off the pitch. He didn’t lose a single one of Iran’s ten qualifying matches for the 2018 World Cup, making Iran the first team to qualify for the tournament.

This year, we successfully carried out NIAC’s first-ever leadership transition – cementing our status as an institution for our community that will give us a voice for years to come. Philip Gordon Previews Potential Clinton Presidency at NIAC Reception

Washington, DC – According to Philip Gordon, former senior advisor to President Obama and current advisor to the Clinton campaign, Iran remains a major challenge to the United States, yet there are opportunities for more constructive relations following the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Gordon spoke at NIAC’s 2016 Leadership Conference in his personal capacity but sought to outline what he believes would be a Hillary Clinton administration’s approach to Iran and the Middle East.
