Human Rights

Raising up the struggles faced by Iranian human rights defenders and holding the Iranian government to international human rights standards is essential to building a future in which the U.S. and Iran enjoy positive relations. NIAC consistently condemns human rights violations by Iran’s government and calls for all prisoners of conscience to be released.

As an American organization, NIAC does not have a role to play in the domestic affairs of Iran. But we do have an obligation to support international human rights standards to which the U.S. and Iran are party.

NIAC’s work on human rights has included helping establish a UN Human Rights Monitor on Iran, securing targeted human rights sanctions against abusers, and lifting US sanctions on communications technology and humanitarian work inside Iran.

Take Action

Stand in Solidarity with Iranian Protestors

The people of Iran are bravely protesting for their rights following the killing of Mahsa Amini. Tell Congress: now is the time to move from policies of punishment to actions of solidarity.
